The African Development Bank is pleased to invite you to a presentation from InRaD (Innovative Research and Development Corporation) on their latest innovation to fight malaria using a technique with the highest level of human safety and environmental friendliness.

In this regard, Her Excellency would like to express her appreciation for your endeavors, which contribute in developing the relations with the Nile basin countries specially Burundi, and that our embassy in Bujumbura has been notified to participate in signing the agreement above mentioned, and we will follow up the feedback of this visit.

Here I would like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation for this effort and activity, which comes along with the support of the government to strengthen the economic, development and technical cooperation between Egypt, African countries, and Nile basin Countries in particular.

On behalf of the Government conclusion, I find the Egyptian extract extremely efficient in killing mosquito larvae which can ingest particles of this extract and its strict selectivity for the target organisms (the mosquito larvae) makes it extremely environmentally friendly. However, more intensive field trials should be carried out on one of the islands in the lake Victoria to assess its impacts on malaria prevalence. It looks a very good product for communities to use in outdoor malaria control along with the indoor bed nets and residual insecticides control methods. Such an integrated approach is bound to reduce malaria cases significantly.

Earlier this morning, we had a very good meeting with two of our compatriots, Dr. Walid A. Ali and Dr. Tarek A. El Tayeb of the innovative Research and Development (INRad-Egypt), with whom we have already started implementation of a joint venture for the control of malaria in different parts of our country using proven environmentally friendly approaches. This initiative is already yielding promising early results and we are starting the scale-up of this important collaborative project with the support of the Ethiopian and Egyptian governments.
